I completed my bachelors and masters in Biotechnology and wanted to pursue my career in genetics research. I worked on basic science project that involved understanding role of a couple of oncogenes in development process in Drosophila melanogaster. After PhD, I received an opportunity to work on an HTS of small molecule library project in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company. Then I joined PerkinElmer as Field Applications Scientist to participate in pre-sales and post-sales process of PerkinElmer Discovery solutions portfolio. I support the expansion of customer adoption of PerkinElmer technologies by providing demonstrations and application development.

Most useful skill sets acquired from/for your field:

  • Public presentation skills (acquired during conference poster presentations, seminars)

  • Rationale thinking (Acquired during dissertation project such as planning, hypothesis, troubleshooting etc.)

  • Keep yourself updated about different research fields by reading different scientific publications

What I love most about my job:

  • Every day you learn different research going on at different research institutes

  • Though it’s a sales job, you are still learning/talking science.
